They're great fans of metallica and wanted to write a song greatly inspired from one of the greatest metallica songs, it's not a cover, and it's not identical. They did a good job actually. Trying to look like a metal expert and a metallica great fan doesn't make you look cool. It makes you look stupid.

actually, it takes elements from both of those Metallica songs, possibly more. the intro riff sounds as though it is based on the main riff through the never, while the (slightly) off timing brief bridging section in the chorus reminds me of Blackened. YEIMS' comment is correct, at the song is structured almost exactly the same as battery, in fact it borrows from that song more than any other.

what do you mean dave never dared to play live? dave, during his time in sum 41 played pretty much every of sum 41's hard, easy, catchy, boring and even crappy songs, he's the great brownsound for fuck sake, tom thacker doesnt compare to him as both a human being and a musician, JUST LOOK AT DAVES NOSE RING AND DIED RED SPIKEY HAIR, he's so fucking cool, but tom... jesus, he wears fedoras and skinny jeans....

Stevo is a bit of a metalhead, I mean his drumming on Chuck shows he has no problem with it, and punk turned metal into what it is, so yeah :D And Dave being into metal is what gave them that elusive-ness, a Candian band that's actually GOOD that plays pop-punk music with a SHREDDING BROWN GUY, I mean C'MON! :p
