When my ex was pregnant with our son, before we knew his gender, we were kicking around names for a boy or girl. We decided on Lorelei if a girl, we were undecided about a boys name. She told her grandmother about the name Lorelei, and she said it was a bad luck name in Germany where she came from. There was a German folklore about these sirens that sang beautiful songs from jagged rocks in the middle of the Rhine River and they would mesmerize the men on boats and would make them wreck their boats on the rocks. One of the sirens' names was Lorelei. When we found out the gender of my son, the song "Daniel" by Elton John was playing on the dr.'s office speakers. That's what we named him.
