Graham Smith -- violin -- went on to play for a period with Van der Graaf Generator. String Driven Thing sounded like it came from traditional sources, similar to Fairport Convention, but their approach was so maniac they actually developed an original style. Progessive folk-rock. Few bands managed this genre. I can only think of Caravan as an example.
