Stone Temple Pilots "Interstate Love Song" guitar lesson. The next Riff of the Day uses the JHS Pedals Super Bolt to match the chiming drive coming from a cranked Supro amp. Dean DeLeo is drawn to using jazz chords in rock music to step outside the box and Interstate Love Song is a chock full of them. The main riff opens with a twangy sound with a B bend and a constant open E to add jangle. The verse chords are often misinterpreted or boiled down to power chords but using the G#/C, C#7/B, and A#m7b5 shapes really show how complex chords contribute to the feel and mood of a song. Enjoy your Riff of the Day guitar lesson!

Andy is da man! Some of those chord changes look very tough.

I came here only because i forgot how to play the main riff. But i must say, Im surprised he actually played the verse correctly. People would usually substitute some of the more advanced chords with a minor/major type chord.

Love your stuff Andy! One request. A small chord chart flashed by for each one. I can look up most if I cannot tell where your fingers are but it would be so much easier if I could stop the video see the correct finger placement. I think the riffs are explained very well. Keep em coming Andy! Your the best.

I listened very carefully to the record and it sounds like that weird b flat chord before the a sus 2 chord should have the g string fretted at 3rd instead of 1st. I could be wrong sometimes my ears trick me

Dean DeLeo rules. Inventive, original, nuanced, great riff after great riff, melodic, flat out rockin'. Dare I say, the Page of his generation. As great a front man as Scott is, such a shame he can't seem to hold it together to let this band grow into what it deserves to be (yeah, I'm a biased, huge STP fan - can't help myself ;-) ). Not that they didn't "make it", but I lament what could've been over a liifetime together. Thanks Andy. Keep 'em coming!

It may just be hearing it over my computer speakers, but the third chord in the descending verse progression sounds wrong. I don't think that's the proper voicing. It's close.

Asus2 should be Asus9 (same chord, different name)! Great demo none the less. BTW, this is my alltime favorite song.
