I never thought this song was about Jesus. I always thought it was about truth. It was about this nation being truthful about the way we treat each other. About people who preach but don't practice. About being truthful concerning how we treat ourselves. I think Jesus was used metaphorically as if he was saying we can lie to each other, and they can lie to us, and we can even lie to ourselves. But we can't lie to Jesus, children of America. We can't lie to Jesus.

stevie sounds like he put like 4 or 5 growling wah-wah clavinets all over this cut....from left to right, you ears are submersed in funky Moog bass and crunchy clavinet candy for days....and I still haven't come down from this groovy high, not since 1987 when I finally listened to this cut in full!
