I can't stop listening to this guy. What an awesome song and what an incredible loss for the world.

What an incredible singer. He was lost at 33 years on a fucking bullshit aircraft flight. I think it was a smoker who put his smoke in a waste basket In the bathroom. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. God Damn them all to hell. What a loss for this earth.

Tragic loss of Canadian talent. He very nearly lived, too. His airplane flight filled with smoke on the way from Dallas to Toronto, but the pilots managed to land it, just barely, in Cincinnati. Half the passengers got out, but 23 died. Investigators were never able to find the cause of the fire. But whatever it was, it flashed over before all the passengers could escape. Sad to think that if that flashover occurred perhaps only 15 seconds later, Stan and the rest of the passengers aboard Flight 797 would still be with us. RIP.

I always loved folk music, but did not start playing/singing myself until after I was introduced to this song by the singing of Mark Soderstrom at the Texas Renaissance Festival in 1988. He was singing it at the Sea Devil Tavern after hours and I quickly learned it and took great joy in belting it out with him. Mark retired from touring a few years after that and last I heard from him, he was the resident carpenter at an American Colonist re-creation farm somewhere on the east coast. Nothing since though I search for him online every so often. I hope he is well. :) I think of him whenever I hear this or All For Me Grog!

We used to sing this in the car on family road trips. We'd sing "gosh darn them all" if Gramma was in the car.
