I long ago concluded that the current Bond producers have no musical ear whatsoever. The films have sounded a mite better under Thomas Newman, because he can actually write but it's a grave mistake to just farm out the song to whomever and hope it all forms a cohesive whole. Writing's On the Wall is a very weak song and it's a testament to how weak when a cover actually sounds 500% better than the original. That said, the orchestration of this song lacks oomph. The brass and percussion crashes should be much stronger than they are (I'm talking about the original version here; this cover can't be blamed for what is really just bad writing). Nice to see the title sequence re-edited as well. I felt that this too was a bit jinxed by the poor quality of the song. I hope they'll come up with something much stronger next time. This song, as sung by Sam Smith, was the weakest part of the film.A lovely cover by Sofia Karlberg.
