I saw them on tour supporting Theatre of Hate, which Duffy was playing in at the time. I have some old photos of that gig and Duffy was playing a Gretch then. But SDC just blew me away and I was a massive TOH fan.

True, but that unmistakable sound went with Astbury to Death Cult. Everything was great up until the Love album as that sound matured, then they went all to shit!

This ISN'T the same band as The Cult. Only IAN (the singer) is the same. They formed as The Death Cult in 1983 and then The Cult in 1984.

Yer absolutely correcto my fren, they should have carried on with this kind of music rather than pursue the derivative metal bilge they churned out after the 'Love' album in the mid-1980's. I loved that stuff at the time, but with the benefit of hindsight, one can see that this Adam & the Ants/Clash/Killing Joke hybrid stuff was far more interesting.

I thought SDC had better songs than the Cult, but unfortunately never made a decent recording. The first Cult album's pretty rocking, after that I think they were a bit lame. As for Electric, what's the point when you've already got AC/DC?

I was in the audience that night on the Tube and all these lads came up from Bradford to see SDC - they were from Bradford i think. They were all zorching around the floor, pushing and shoving each other and we hadnt seen anything like it. needless to say we were all zorching around like madmen after that...
