Choke is referring to metalcore in this song, rather than the original crossover (or even thrash) bands such as DRI. The likes of DRI shared the punk/hardcore ethos, whereas metalcore and 'hardcore' metal tends to be little more than narcissistic spoiled brat shouting and tough guy posturing. I'm quite sure that Choke may have had Green Day and/or The Offspring in mind too.
