The thing you're referring to is melodic death metal, plain and simple. In fact, Children of Bodom, Norther, Kalmah and a ton of similar bands played Neoclassical power metal with added growls and other harsh vocals.

Personally, I don't like harsh vocals. I'm glad power metal is how it is, and death/black/thrash metal is how it is. The more varied the genre of metal is the more people it will appeal to. We all have a piece we like. Rock on brothers.

Okay...I gotta say something about the people that don't like melodic vocals (let me preempt by saying I LOVE extreme Metal- be it Death, Black, Doom, etc.- so don't take me wrong here)- do you want the guitarists to lose their fretting hand, so that all they can do is chug one note in a rhythmic pattern with the drummer? That's how I see these "this music would be better with harsh vocals" comments. Power Metal is a close relative to Classic Metal. Would you put down Dio's voice? If so- leave!

@kravarnik If you want a kickass power metal band with harsh vocals, check out Silverlane, especially their 2010 album, "Above The Others".

There's a difference between death metal and power metal. If you want hard vocals, maybe u should listen to that...Anyways, I just discovered Herbie sings in this band to. I got his Seventh Avenue Terium album off of iTunes and am definitely planning on getting this one soon too :D

@Strinzer Everyone has it's own perferences.Mines are - harsh vocals mixed up with some clean ones.I'm sorry that it doesnt really appeal to you at all... after all it's my taste not yours.Not saying the song is bad - just that I'd love it if it had harsh vocals.

I think Wintersun is the perfect mix between power metal and death with clean/harsh vocal. Jari is great.

@metatilleternity ye dude I agree with that too.Some power metal bands are awesome even with the clean vocals but some are just ughh like at first you hear some amazing intro and then it goes with those bad(IMO) vocals.I am just not a big fan of this kind of vocals.But I admit there are good power metal bands with clean vocals.

Pretty badass song.But there's one thing I dont like about power metal - vocals... ye there are some awesome power metal bands out there but only if they had harsh vocals it would be epic as fuck.
