1989 (Veteran singer, Shirley Bassey, the lady with the POWERFUL Voice, canta en Espanol. Shirley recorded an LP in Spanish titled 'La Mujer', and this is one of the excellent tracks from that LP!). In 2013, Dame Shirley is now celebrating 60 Years in Show Business. I hope you have a listen, and enjoy!
Shirley Bassey recorded and released her LP titled, "Shirley Bassey - La Mujer, Canta en Espanol' in 1988/89. Bbecause she was between recording contracts, Shirley had recorded very few complete LPs in the 1980's. But, what a comeback! This LP is brillient from cover to cover! Shirley does not speak fluent Spanish, but you would never know it. She took 20 Hours of training to learn how to speak (sing) the words phonetically. And, then when she walked into the recording studio, the producer insisted that she learn a different Spanish dialect. Let's all give Shirley cudos for this exceptional piece of work!
I believe that our Spanish speaking friends who take some time to listen to this song will give it many "LIKES" as Shirley does a fine job with both this song, and all the songs on this wonderful CD. For Shirley's English speaking fans, I have listed the English lyrics (as best as I understand them) within the picture clips.
La Mujer Sleevenote:
I have to tell you that this album was not easy for me to make for the simple reason that I do not speak Spanish. No, really I do not, but I did invest in twenty hours of Spanish lessons which proved invaluable because I was able to sing the actual Spanish words and not use phonetics. I also have to tell you that I am very proud of my second effort to sing in a foreign language! In the 1960's I recorded many Italian songs. No matter what language you speak the language of love is universal. I dedicate this album with all my love to you. Shirley Bassey. Paris, January 1989
Notes
I found the following about "La Mujer" in an article from 1989:
...with some new admirers in Chile And now an album in Spanish on the Polygram label entitled "La Mujer" ("The Woman") the brainchild of Grammy Award winning Leonardo Shultz. The album was demoed in Spain, and recorded in California. As preparation for the recording Shirley even has Spanish lessons. The album brings together new Spanish versions of some of Shirley's former classics such as "Without You" and "I Who Have Nothing" along with new material written especially for the album. The album's debut was an amazing performance by Shirley at the Viña Del Mar Song Festival in Chile in February, 1989, and further appearances in South America will follow.
The world has only a mere handful of great stars...Shirley Bassey is one...she is Europe's female superstar...she is in a class of her own.
I found it noteworthy that the album producer Leonardo Schultz was also the writer or co-writer (translator) of every song. So it seems that he was the one who had the idea for this album and he has been the driver behind the project, because he was personally engaged very much.
LYRICS:
Quiero
volver a revivir
todo el fuego que perdí por un error.
Y ahora creo
que no podré fingir,
eres la locura del primer amor.
Ya no verás
(no verás)
mi tonta vanidad,
(mi tonta vanidad)
hoy quiero amar
(quiero amar)
con naturalidad.
(hoy quiero amar con naturalidad)
Eres melodía que yo cantaré,
eres poesía que yo escribiré;
Y las tonterías que podría leer
serán de amor, no fingiré.
Y mis alegrías que hoy te brindaré,
y con fantasía yo te soñaré,
y mis picardías las compartiré
contigo amor, no fingiré.
Quiero
volver a compartir
los momentos que vivir con tanto ardor.
Y ahora creo
que tengo que admitir,
ya no es divertido simular mi amor.
Ya no verás
(no verás)
mi tonta vanidad,
(mi tonta vanidad)
hoy quiero amar
(quiero amar)
con naturalidad.
(hoy quiero amar con naturalidad)
Eres melodía que yo cantaré,
eres poesía que yo escribiré;
Y las tonterías que podría leer
serán de amor, no fingiré.
Y mis alegrías que hoy te brindaré,
y con fantasía yo te soñaré,
y mis picardías las compartiré
contigo amor, no fingiré
La, la, la, la...
