The remake was so-so compared to this; when the producers removed the double-exposure trick which shows that those balloons *aren't* real, some children might have missed the point of the song. Besides, the final dreamlike image of the whole street covered with balloons...how unforgettably lovely!

The 1998 remake is not bad, but this 1974/1975 original is way better. I believe the entire episode of Sesame Street from which this was first seen took place at night.This was one of the last sketches in the episode, it was followed by the animated sketch in which two "men" stack boxes to reach a light bulb only to reveal that the other "man" was really an ugly monster when the bulb was illuminated. THENI believe the episode ended first showing the outside of Susan and Gordon's 123 apartment and then the camera panning out to show the entire "Street" and night. Can't remember if in the final shot if the balloons were still there, or if the neighborhood was back to normal. But as usual the episode ended with the "lullaby" end credits, like all previous and future night time Sesame Street
