Back in the day we used to call instrumental music that combined multiple styles with excellent technique (and theoretical knowledge) "Fusion". If you dig these guys you might like bands like Return To Forever and the Dixie Dregs (or anything with Al DiMeola or Steve Morse). Also, Rush has a lot of great purely instrumental tracks.
