The Siege of Bastogne was an engagement between American and German forces at the Belgian town of Bastogne, as part of the larger Battle of the Bulge, the last German major offensive of the Western Front in World War Two. The American high command under General Dwight D. Eisenhower committed the 101st Airborne Division ("The Screaming Eagles") under Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe (famous for his single-word reply to the German surrender ultimatum: "Nuts!") against the German spearhead, they acquired their defensive position in Bastogne, an important traffic junction in the Belgian Ardennes.

The German forces surrounded Bastogne, the 101st Airborne Division was able to resist the local German superiority. The encirclement lasted from 21 to 26 December 1944.

CAUTION!

I won't tolerate any racist, discriminatory or in any other form inappropriate comments! This song neither glorifies war, nor National Socialism, but should be considered as a historical work.

"No, we don't glorify anything, we just tell stories about things that have happened." (Rikard Sundén, Sabaton)

----------

Seriously, to all people hating the US victory video... There are several Sabaton songs about several countries victories and achievements... They even made songs about countries whom most people don't know were involved on the war.Let the 'muricans have this one... (And I ain't even one of them".

And to this day the 101st firmly states 3rd Army didn't save them, they were quite fine where they were, but were happy to let patton's units play through.

Your only hope is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier's supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it. *Nods*

Actually, "Nuts" was the revised version of what he wanted to say, and also what he said when he read the ultimatum. What he really wanted to say to the Germans was "Go take a flying shit."
