I've listened now to every version of this song on YouTube, and this is by far the best presentation/performance of the bunch. Ryan "gets it", and his voice and expressions convey a sincerity that is absent in all of the "legit vocal" versions. As for the other comments: Tempo is irrelevent - its about the lyrics, and any tempo will do when the acting is this good.

I heard this 23 years ago for the first time. I cried because it reminded me of my Dad, music was his life and how he broke down racial barriers. I realised how big an influence on me and I have gone on to work with music helping people through it's subtle communication. Ryan's emotional connection with the piece is very clear, especially when he gets to the. He is close to tears because he is living this song and for me there is nothing better when a performer stops performing and lives the music. Thank you for uploading this. I've never forgotten the man from Finland who brought this song into my life.

I never comment on YouTube videos, but I had to on this one, cause I so disagree with the other two comments. The tempo drives the urgency, still leaving time to reflect - and if it's not too weighted at the beginning it's because he's playing against the results so he can take us on a journey. There's certainly a depth of emotion by the end. I think this is a lovely performance.

I do like RSO... but, this is not good. It's pitchy, it's fast, it's without emotion... I think it's a valid interpretation, but I prefer a more "operatic" approach to this piece, with less speak-singing, and more line to the sound.
