Charted at #9 in 1927. This song had earlier charted at #3 for Marion Harris in October 1921, and #11 for Aileen Stanley in July 1921. It would later chart at #3 for Judy Garland in August 1940, #15 for Bea Wain in August 1940, and #16 for Ozzie Nelson and His Orchestra in August 1940. Judy Garland sang the song in the 1940 movie, "Andy Hardy Meets Debutante". Recorded March 1, 1927.

Written by Milton Ager, Benny Davis and Lester Santly.

The other side of this record is "You Don't Like It - Not Much".

Also, yes, it's Ruth Etting in the photo.

When Judy Garland sang this song, they changed the intro around. Understandable, because this intro (which Marrion Harris also uses in her version) is pretty bland.

Why oh why don't they write songs like this nowadays ? We're just inundated with the same old tuneless, electronic drivelsung very largely by untalented, man-made celebrities with no realsinging voice. The basic problem lies in that nowadays there is no melody, henceone cannot remember a tune to sing along with, because there isn't one !

I've got a recording of this same song by Cab Calloway, Bluebird label, ca. 1935.

Wow! Just ran across this. What a marvellous song, and what a wonderful performance by Ruth Etting. I wonder why this song isn't better known. The version Judy Garland songs in the Andy Hardy movie is odd - someone wrote a new (and IMHO decidedly inferior) verse.

What a Marvelous Voice! It literally makes me want to cry, just listening to her and to think this wonderful voice is forever silent now.
