I knew Connie (Ruby) her brother and her whole band (Ruby Jones). She was from Toledo, Ohio. In high-school the band was called Connie and the Blue Beats. Later became Ruby Jones. They had albums and toured with Ike & Tina Turner and a few other bands before Jim Dandy saw them performing in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He asked her to join Black Oak Arkansas. She left her life long friends, the guys in Ruby Jones, the next night and never looked back. The guitar player from Ruby Jones, Pete Mousailles, became my bands manager from 1981-89. She died at her home in Toledo in 1995 from brain cancer.

Was that Don Kirshner's Rock Concert? It's weird hearing Jim Dandy thank Brothers Johnson for their performance. Regardless, blegh, I never could stand Ruby's voice. She was so scuzzy, like a trashy southern Pinky Tuscadero.

I photographed Ruby Starr for 2 years in Grey Star and then the switch to Ruby Star Band, she was down to earth and a wonderful person, I am trying to find the people in Milwaukee that recorded all the concerts!! I am the person handing Fred the beer bottle for his slide then leaning into the speaker at the stage!! I want copies please post...

Ruby could sing!! What a talent. I've read of few interviews about her & she had a reputation as a bed hopper with different bands. Not sure if it's true, but that's what I remember reading about her years ago.
