I first heard this gorgeous song on "Flashes From The Archves..." and of course it reminded me of my first girlfriend. Recently, I watched the 2011 DVD concert, and there was a not-so-young guy with tears rolling, down his face at the conclusion of "Another Day" - this man encapsulated so many of us at a certain point in our times as did Roy and his beautiful songwriting. Thank you Roy - the Engllish music tradition owes you so much.

Teamcrumb. What a nasty thing to say a boy Roy.There is no way that's true. He is a beautiful human being and I have always loved hearing him play music. Seriously my gut instinct tells me if what you said was true he would not be loved by so many people and musicians. A real lovely old hippy that played Stonehenge festival for free for years for the ordinary person. Thanks a million Roy you have given so much to all of us love and blessings to you

You can tell this influenced Ian Anderson when he wrote 'Wond'ring Aloud' for Tull.

The kettle's on, the sun has goneAnother dayShe offers me Tibetan tea on a flower trayShe's at the door, she wants to scoreShe dearly needs to sayI loved you a long time agoWhere the winds own forget-me-nots blowBut I just couldn.t let myself goNot knowing what on earth there was to know. But I wish that I had 'cause I need you so badI should have had one of your children. And across the room inside a tombA chance is waxed and wanesThe night is young, why are we so hung upIn each others chainsI must make her, I must take herWhile the dove domainsand feel the juice run as she fliesRun my winds under her sighsAs the flames of eternity riseTo lick us with the first born lash of dawn.Oh really my dear I can't see what we fearSat here with ourselves in between us.And at the door she can't say moreThan just another dayAnd without a soundI turn aroundAnd I walk away.

I was floating above the summer flowersWhen I heard the song that regained my earthly powersBack to the foul mess they call the human raceYes it was Another Day, back in the destitution, mixed with lace

Saw him in Brisbane in the 80's.  Second on the bill between Xero and Chris Baileys version of the The Saints.  He walked out onto the stage,  sat on a kitchen chair and just stared at all the hecklers there to see the Saints.  After about 30 seconds he yelled out 'SHADDAP!!!!!!' and started playing.  Within 2 songs he had the audience in the palm of his hand.

The use of metaphors and analogy's are so apparent/stark to me,a poetic tragedy within evocative vocals and music.

I love Elizabeth Frazer's and this original version, but I cant stop thinking this version reminds me of David Bowies - "Space Oddity".

For Some reason, for the song 'South Africa', all comments have been disabled which is extraordinary as this is one of the best songs I have ever heard. It has been a hallmark song in my life and has innumerable appllications.

OK, calm down and cool your impressive nature, and think : it was Harper's muse that inspired TMC and especially Liz "Glossolalia" Fraser in their gargantuan tribute to ... Roy Harper's song. Theirs is a breathtaking rendition of the song - so spectral like a psychic seance, recollecting non-affairs. Around here, the 1974 live version was aired enough to create an aura around the song - that version is better than the studio one. TMC's is different and excellent but not better.

This is the first time I've heard the original, just beautiful and sad.

Somehow I've spent these last 56 years not knowing much about Roy Harper, but I recently read a statement from Ian Anderson that Harper was his main influence as a guitarist and songwriter (which brought me here), and sure enough -- I hear a great similarity in the best way! I also hear that Anderson took a lot of his best vocal styling from Harper. Okay, I'm off to explore more of this.

I heard This Mortal Coil's version long before I heard of Roy Harper - never thought it was a great song until I heard the original.
