My attempt at an analysis. So he was in loved with the dark skin girl first (the love of his life'|) then he fell for the light skin girl- this is what caused their relationship to end. The parallel dimension shows life before and after "wealth." Romaine is in a scene showing the possibly last time he was with the dark skin girl before she went out the door(symbolic of the end of their relationship). It shows him going back and forth from both dimensions. He was in love with the dark skin girl
