Rogue Traders were doing well in Oz before Nat Bass got known in Neighbours. She had a parallel career as a singer and an actress ans it was a fluke that she happened to land a major role in a major soap and became known for that character. At that time Neighbours was a far bigger deal in the UK than it was in Oz, the whole country was obsessed with it and watched it daily. So everyone was familiar with izzy when this song was released in the uk ans thought it was some vehicle for her.Down under the guys in the band, the keyboardist and the guitarist who write the songs and hired her as their girl singer, wanted to avoid her sudden Tv fame as being any kind of promotion and wanted the music to stand for what it was. They were doing the opposite of what they were accused of.As you can see, Nat was a proper singer with a great voice and can turn in a solid live performance, she really is a proper rock star and front person. Rt were touring and selling albums irrespective of what izzy was doing that week in Neighbours, people didn't go to RT gigs to see izzy, they went to see the band. Yes Nat had a big following but that was down to her talent ans her music, and yes to a degree her sexuality, but not coz of her day job. A lot of RT fans watched Neighbours, but they would have done anyway.
