'Hey Little Star' recorded Aug 1962 at RCA Studio Nashville -Jerry Reed, Jerry Kennedy on guitars, Pig Robbins on piano...released as a single on RCA in Sept 1962 and on RCA Camden LP (RCA's 'cheap' label) in Oct 1964. After Roger's success on SMASH records, RCA released the previously unreleased 'If You Want Me To' (recorded in Aug 1962) b/w Hey Little Star' as a single in Aug 1965...Diff version of 'If You Want Me To' was recorded for Smash in Jan 1964 for May 1964 'Roger And Out' LP.. srj

I remember as a kid in the 60s getting my first Roger Miller 45s out of the Jays Potato chips boxes for free. I got can't roller skate in a buffalo herd and a couple others. I think they were pushing the sales up and bumping the charts with them.

KO.OL !!! That was it! No doubt it was oneof my mothers records that I pilfered. After a quick listen to it - I knew that was the song on the flipside-I actually remembered almost all of it as it played along, so I obviously listened to it a lot, too. Yaay Ha the Hooopa Dooeee ... LoLBut I also knew immediately that I still prefer "Hey Little Star"... LoL ROGER MILLER - Such a TALENT -So famous as a musical Comedian-yet a fine all around singer/songwriter-Thanks again, for sharing:)

I looked on Ebay for Hey Little Star and found an RCA 45 with 'Trouble On The Turnpike' on the flipside.

A wonderful little song ... the flipside of a 45 ... I used to play it on my little red and white portable record player when I was in the 2nd grade. I can't even remember for sure what was on the other side. I loved this so much, It was the side I always listend to. I have looked for it several times and had given up.Thanks for sharing.

I thought it was a great song, but whereas we played it at WKDA radio in Nashville, apparently it got little airplay elsewhere. And as I said, I played the song as a WKDA DJ in 1962 but forgot all about it until Roger Miller became well-known in 1964. Even though this song didn't make too many charts, it convinced me that he had "star" potential, and I wasn't wrong.

As you may expect, when I played the song on WKDA in 1962, I had no idea that the singer would burst into nationwide acclaim a couple years later. But when "Dang Me" (followed by all his other hits) became popular, I recalled liking "Hey Little Star" earlier. Thanks again for making this one available.

Even though Roger Miller didn't burst into prominence until "Dang Me" and "Chug-A-Lug" in 1964, I played this song as a disc jockey on WKDA in Nashville in late 1962. It was on the RCA Victor label, although all of his later big hits, including "King of the Road," were on the Smash label. Good to hear this one again.
