To my thinking, the biggest hoot regarding this Rockwell video is that is was directed by none other than avant-garde, XXX-rated artistic porno film director and trend-setting fashion and photo shoot stylist Rinse Dream, aka, Ladi von Janski, aka Stephen Sayadian, a real one-of-a-kind talent whose work has forever out-ed him as a sore thumb of a true American original in this world of terminal replicates, lookalikes, reality-television celebrities, wanna-be-anything-at-all's and all the rest of those insufferable, trendy, bourgouise middle-of-the-road spin-off's of someone else's inventions, brilliance and originalities. He directed the R-rated DR. CALIGARI (1989), which was NOT a remake of the 1920 Robert Weine surrealist horror fantasy masterpiece, but was written as a sort-of seventy-years later sequel (of sorts) in which his granddaughter, yet another powerful, disturbed and celebrated Doctor carries out a successful string of unsolicited brain transference operations. kidnapping and every variety of morally questionable psycho-sexual experiments at her namesake CIA (Caligari Insane Asylum). Sayadian had previously made his mark in the motion picture arena with 1981's NIGHTDREAMS, a bizarre, disturbing, highly (all real sex)ualized hardcore porno, fantasy and psychological examination exploring the hyper sex drive and buried taboo fantasies hidden deep within an ordinary woman's psyche; which was followed a year later by CAFE FLESH (1982), the first (and last, I believe) bonafide mainstream-audience science fiction drama which also featured all variety of explicit, XXX sex acts as an organically necessary component of the film's narrative itself. He also directed some direct-to-video titles, the most memorable, original, outlandish and enjoyable of these later rip-off's of his earlier self's work unquestionably being the memorable, absurdist dada avant-garde theatre of the ridiculous XXX porn comedies PARTY DOLL A GO-GO (both from 1991), before further slipping off the foundations of his own seeming brilliance by filming low-quality quickie knock-off's of his earlier films by relaeasing NIGHTDREAMS 2 and 3 and then doing the same pathetic thing with the (now franchise) CAFE FLESH 2, 3 & 4. He also directed the music videos for Wall of Voodoo's MEXICAN RADIO, Weird Al's I LOST ON JEOPARDY and the Ramones PSYCHOTHERAPY, as well as production designer on both seasons of TV's SILK STALKINGS (1991-1992), giving that show the unsettling simplicity, day-glo color palette, abstract architecture and otherwise completely askew set design of which his stylings have always been easily, obviously attributable to him alone, of which he is primarily remembered for.
