I saw Stranglers many times. But this performance nails why Hugh had to go . People complained about the Paul Roberts period ; but as live band they were better than this crappy version fronted by Hugh. I'm glad he left, the writing was also becoming feeble as witnessed on 10. Today there still far better without Hugh, Baz really stepped up. And Hugh maybe the mariachi style is the way to go; the Golden Brown version works.

I can understand not being able to play that solo to speed, he's using a semi acoustic so the bridge and string tension would be a lot more higher and rigid than an electric guitar. Makes it harder to play faster and higher notes.

i like the dirtyness of this version aka the fact its raw and not perfect, it has soul tho :)

at 2.42 , one of the front of house cameras catches jj laughing, possibly at that bad solo. I think it was JJ who once said that hugh never managed to get the solo spot on live, and even in the studio, it was a bit of a mission to get him to record it note perfect.
