What a heritage this country has for singers. Jolson, Cantor, Durante, Sinatra, Crosby and all the rest of the wonderful male singers who have given so much. Al Jolson hits us right in the heart. He is the Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn of singing....what a great contribution he made to us all. My question is when will the new generation make their contribution?

Jolson fought all his life for the rights of black entertainers and black people in general. By today's standards his 'blacking up' was not very PC, but he was a great singer and all-round entertainer.

"You take the piss out of Al Jolson again and I will remove your iPod from its tiny nano-sheath and push it up your cock! Then I'll put some speakers up your arse and put it on shuffle with my fucking fist. And every time I hear something that I don't like, which will be every time that something comes on, I will skip to the next track by crushing your balls!" brought me here

The only singer whose version of "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody" came to close to Jolie's is Jerry Lewis.

Thank you IrRrIS1l3nt for sharing this. JohnnyfiveJ5, my condolences on the passing of your grandfather; my father used to hold me on his knee and sing and play both songs. "Jolie" is still great!
