I remember scoring some Pink Panther acid, going home, watching this, then going out in Prestwich Clough with Dave-B- and getting shapeshiftingly fucking MULLERED. April '85, right as Fegmania came out....despite having literally worshiped Robyn for 18 months, I fucking hated this, as it was poofy as fuck...I was 19 at the time...a proper Acid Trooper. Fuck the world.

How come this kind of originality & brilliance didn't result in somebody like Robyn becoming an absolute superstar for the entirety of the last 30 years? 'The steaming air as hot as sprouts'...Brenda sounds like a right piece of work to me!

@xtcpino I was about to write something very similar. i dread to think what I would have ended up doing without Robyn Hitchcock and Vivian Stanshall, probably something horrible and productive. :)

If Robyn Hitchcock did not exist, I would not be who or what or where I am today. I'm sure that's a good thing?

@echobears Glad to hear it. I haven't been buying his recent stuff. My comment was based on the documentary "Food, Sex, Death...and Insects" and the recent clips of his on YouTube--the old material is all slowed down considerably in comparison to the original recordings. Which is fine, they're his songs after all, and I still enjoy the man's work very much--but he's not what he was 30 years ago. Who is? Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan aren't as lively and exciting as they used to be either.

Why did that guy quote the line before he played the song he completely ruined that hilarious lyric.

I'm so grateful I saw so many Robyn shows in the 80's. He was at his peak as a writer and performer. He still has some of 'it' but he seems unwilling to do this type of tempo anymore. Not that this is unique to him--name a rock artist who wrote or performed the bulk of his or her very best stuff after 40--its a young man's medium.

Like the man said Holly, "A searing indictment of the arms race". I read recently that RH regrets he can't write decent protest tunes.. WTF is this?! Scotch mist? And what about 'I Wanna Destroy You' and 'If You Know Time'? Eh?! EH?! I can't imagine the 1980s (or any subsequent decades) without Robyn Hitchcock. Its simply too awful.... and I gotta big imagination...

My Auntie Brenda has really big tits. Bet Robin Hitchcock couldnt get that in a lyric. Then again, I withdraw that challenge. This is a classic and was from a phase when many moaned about "Old Grey" being dropped from the show's title - they thought it meant a drop in high brow, album based, art-rock. They were right. Thankfully.
