I myself being raised in a family with an alcoholic father who drank himself to death by age 44, and also having several failed relationships myself with men who were alcoholics, can fully appreciate this song. She is on the water...in a boat... which is significant in the fact of her lover drowning... drowning in water - - drowning in alcohol - - both are suicide.
