it is not really so much about confirming to oneself that ones listens to cool music, this is after all taste. it is though a matter of choice. i don;t give a shit if my pals wanna listen to say, JLO. But i do give a shit when there is a music that it "dominant", being listened to everywhere and you just don't have a chance to listen to what you really like unless you do your own research. Most of the people now want to be simple, and, frankly, there is less need for expression in them then there was when people like Louis Armstrong were popular. Music now is something that unites certain types of people, makes it easier for them to find someone as dumb and uncaring. I remember what Kurt Cobain said - that the kids use music to find someone to fuck and stuff, not to find their emotions echoed in a song or something like that.. who cares about real art anymore?
