Great video...thanks for the upload asherel. David Letterman had some of the best singers on his show over the years. I always felt David hand picked the bands on that show. Gonna miss the Letterman show, and I miss this band recording. My favorite band of all time.

I saw this live, was about 20 at the time... thought it was great. Not too long after I walked into a "Strawberry Records" store and Murmur was playing... the entire album start to finish, stayed for the whole thing, told the clerk I had just found my favorite band ever. Remember record store clerks?

This is EXACTLY why Letterman and Paul Schaffer RULED back in the day. I remember watching this live when I was in high school. Paul had his finger on the pulse of up and coming bands. They didn't have to sell a bazillion records to get on the Letterman show. Letterman's humor and Paul's musical expertise were THE standard back in the day. Wow...this REALLY brings back GREAT memories of when TV could be something actually GOOD.

This feels me with such Great Memories!! You know how you never think you will get old enough to feel old when you are young until you look back to where we all were at that time (it happens too quick to, be careful). I love love loved R.E.M. like no tomorrow, especially in the beginning when we found them and would stay up for days trying to figure out Michael Stipe's words/lyrics on the first couple albums. At that beginning he had a very cool and weird mumble/singing voice, tough to understand or make sense some times! I think it was because he was incredibly shy and gifted Man! I love him very much!!If you really want to have a good look at the semi-beginning of R.E.M., watch the Movie: Athens, Ga. - Inside/Out, made in 1987 with the B-52'S, Love Tractors and others from that area!! Great Times to be alive!!

I still don't know any of their lyrics..shall I look them up, or would it destroy the mystery?

Some friends and I were walking around Piedmont Park, Atlanta, GA summer 1982 and stumbled on a band playing songs I had never heard. A friend with me said thats REM. I had no idea who they were but thought they sounded pretty good but sure didnt think anything of it. Thirty two years later...

Priceless start to R.E.M.'s national career with a song that was too new to be named. I would first hear about this song thanks to a letter Michael Stipe wrote to Rolling Stone. Something about this song conjures up a vestigial feeling that relationships are incredibly hard and fleeting, a fact that makes itself known most all of the time.
