So your home town's bringing you downAre you drowning in the small talkand the chatterOr you gonna step into line like your daddy donePunching the time and climbing life’s long ladderYou've been howling at the moon like a slack jaw foolAnd breaking every rule they can throw onBut one of these days it's gonna be right soonYou'll find your legs and go and stay goneYoung man full of big plans and thinking about tomorrowYoung man going to make a standYou beg, steal you borrowYou beg you steal you borrowWell all the friends that you knew in schoolThey used to be so cool and they just bore youWell look at them now, already pulling the plowSo quick to take to grain like some old newsYoung man full of big plans and thinking about tomorrowYoung man going to make a standYou beg steal you borrowYou beg you steal you borrowDreaming of the dayYou're gonna pack your bagsPut the miles awayOh, just grab your girl and goWhere no one knows youWhat will all the old folks say?So the home town's bringing you downAre you drowning in the small talk and the chatter?Or you gonna step into line like your daddy donePunching the time and climbing life’s long ladderYoung man full of big plans and thinking about tomorrowYoung man going to make a standYou beg, steal you borrowYou beg you steal you borrow

I love this guy, plain and simple. I loved him on stage with the legendary John Prine and Lyle Lovett as well. When I first heard him, I didn't think of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young or any other performer, I just wanted to discover who this particular folk singer was. The only thing is that every time I see an image of him, whether on video or in a still, I have a hankering to open some book and look at old Civil War photographs.

Ever since I heard this song on the radio, I've always thought that this was Neil Young. I've always badly wanted to find this modest yet wonderful-sounding piece of music! Ray LaMontagne obviously has much of that Neil Young country-style sound that I find subtle and yet also wonderful!

That's a kind of song to make you dream and imagine how can a singer with this voice turns everyhing bright !!

If I didn't know better, I would swear this is a Joni Mitchell song. The style of singing, the melody, the voice, everything is Joni Mitchell. I was shocked to see how old Joni Mitchell looks at age 71. But Neil Young looks like an old dock worker. Well, Ray, I guess you might have experienced the migration of Joni's soul when you came up with this one.

Yes, strong hints of "Joni" in there, especially the song, "For the Summer". Who better to beg, steal & borrow from? :)
