RIP Smokin Joe

The REAL "Godfather of Soul". James Brown is pretty amazing...but he can't touch RAY.

This being the end of his lengthy run at Atlantic Records, this was a preview of what was yet to come when he signed with ABC-Paramount.

@DeMatt11370 Thank you, Dematt. Please see my comments to Shelley above. I totally agree with your comments. There were a number of very good male vocalists in Charles's time - Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and others - but Ray Charles has always been my favorite, the best. I've listened to his songs from this album for some 55 years now. They are still as great today as when I first heard them. We will miss you, Ray. But you are not forgotten, and your music, your Soul, lives on.

How can U not like this man. He makes you feel every word he is singing. When U come from hearing you feel like you heard a sermon at church. Thanks you Ray, God Bless You in your Rest. D

@SimplyBlue1975 Thanks, Shelley. I had this album back in the Sixties, and loved it also. I now have it on CD and uploaded songs from it that others had not already uploaded. I went through a sad, broken romance, and this album was my "crying in my beer" music. I know the words to this song and the others I uploaded by heart - every nuance, every inflection, pause, the high and low notes, etc. Ray Charles to me was the consummate Soul singer in the days when he recorded these songs, unequaled.
