The one song that I could always count on to get my daughter to stop crying when she was a toddler. Has all of the classic gospel elements and trills that drove church folk crazy at the time. Ray was a special kind of genius...

The Seren Ozkan, Glad you liked that song and Ray's performance.Correction: The song is in a jazz/blues style *not* soul. Ray's inimitable performances generally has a lot of soulful expressions (meaning derived from gospel/negro spirituals) and vocal inflections in his singing style. The song was released in 1956 ... looong before the term 'soul music' even emerged and has at least 30 versions by others. The first time the word "soul" was mentioned in an album title was on Solomon Burke's "The King of Rock and Soul". Sam Cooke (check "Change gonna come") is generally thought of as the godfather of soul music but Ray has been one of the most consistent singer/songwriter/musicians on the planet since the 1950's and a Stevie Wonder dedicated an album to him called, "Tribute to Uncle Ray". Though not related to each other, it was a mark of respect from one blind child to an older blind trendsetter. Apart from writing and singing, Ray also plays piano, organ and saxophone that I know of so far. He's the man who influenced the people ... who influenced the people that influenced so much of today's pop music.Rock music is a poor variant of rhythm and blues (R 'n' B) which was also influenced by gospel and negro spirituals with some bits of jazz thrown in sometimes. The genius, Ray Charles has had *at least 1* hit in every one of the most popular styles since way back when..... including blues, pop, r 'n' b, gospel, jazz, popular, country, soul and swing. He influenced rockers like Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Herbie Hancock, Jools Holland, Prince and a whole heap more. Check his, "In the heat of the night" from the film of the same name, "Hallelujah I Love Her So" and the song, Another jazz/blues of note is "Georgia on my mind"...just too much to mention.Like the man sang, "Hit the road Jack".....and I've got to do just that right now. Enjoy!
