So I gathered family and friends again to make another video. My friend Brian Guiry was kind enough to let us dismantle his house for a second time to shoot the bulk of it, and the outdoor shots were filmed at the end of some trails here in Jacksonville. We only had a week to do everything, including the costumes and set design. I owe a lot of people after all the favors I pulled in for this one. It was a lot of sleepless nights in a row. Thanks again, all you who helped.

Holy Branches

you'd bite your tongue

calm, always did what you were told

never ran your mouth

lived life on tiptoes

only felt peace if by yourself

where mistakes don't count

from the time that you was born

one that don't get filled

but everybody's bones are just holy branches

cast from trees to cut patterns in the world

and in time we find some shelter,

spill our leaves, and then sleep in the earth

and when there we'll belong

work in the belly of machines

More than 8 years ago, Ben Cooper AKA Radical Face, started crafting the story of a fictitious, and sometimes otherworldly, 19th century family. In 2011, he brought those characters to life in The Family Tree: The Roots, which was the first installment of a three-part, stand-alone album series based around the Family Tree he created. He recorded alone in the shed behind his mom's house in Jacksonville, Florida.

Radical Face will release the second installment to the series, The Family Tree: The Branches on October 22. Certain instrumentations and melodies that represent a "family member" will reappear in the second album as a continuation of the story or descendent. Just as The Family Tree: The Roots was limited to instruments that would have been accessible during that era of the story, The Family Tree: The Branches will progress in production by including instruments that would have become available in the next era of the story set from 1860-1910.
