This song has great lyrics, great music, and a great singer. You typically do not get any of that in most music today.

OMG! I came across the album "The Dude" on spotify, and when the song "Something Special" came on, I was in love again. I've been listening to this song all weekend long, and am constantly singing it to myself all day. I love it.

The moment I heard it, I suspected Rod Temperton wrote it. A masterpiece from a songwriting and arrangement perspective and an awesome collaboration.

This song has been stuck in my mind since the first time I heard it in the early 80's. I love Patti's vocals, she and Quincy are awesome talents.

very well observed! I didn't notice that .. I also think that the respective bridges have pretty similar vibes.. they are typical Rod Temperton in a way that they are drifting off to a more upbeat sphere and always have these great moments when they are coming back to the main part again (most notably - I think - in Rufus & Chaka Khan's "Live in me", one of my favourite RT tracks ever)

This has to be one of my favorite albums of all times and this cut is one of my favorites. I became more familiar with Patti Austin voice because of this album and it made me seek out more of her music. I had to get in CD format once vinyl became obsolete. The melody is floating and the band is tight. It never sounds dated to me even now. Good music is good music always.
