Original version of "If Only"

Appears as the fourth track of the Kyuss/QOTSA Split EP.

The second version is on their first eponymous album.

Enjoy ;)

Lyrics:

If it gets you down well then Ill take it

If it gets you up, well I don't want it

It lets you down so broken hearted

If it gets you down well then I want it

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

We're nothing at all

You blow my mind cos ur so pretty girl

Those long, long days there's no escaping

I rolled the wheel and let it go

and where it stops, you'll never know

If it gets you down then just don't blame me

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

If only, only and

We're nothing at all

The strumming pattern and probably the tonality is different, but the main chord progression is pretty much like The Stooges' "I Wanna be Your Dog".

The guitars sound so much better on this version, way cooler!

It definitely is:) Listen how songs like Infinity, Born to Hula and If Only Everything are the transition from the Kyuss (guitar)sound to the first QotSA album sound. (And from there it keeps evolving). And Josh playing guitar in Kyuss is what made Kyuss so cool. I mean you gotta love that scale he uses and those chord progressions. To me Kyuss and Queens are two fraternal twins.

the lyrics are as follows: so blow our mind and make it lazy, those long long days with no escaping, I hold the wheel to let it go, don't wanna stop don't wanna know, if it gets you down well just don't blame me.

Riff sounds very Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" like to me. Diggin' it. This is probably my favorite version of the song too, album version is great but a little too polished.

There was no collaboration. Homme had the Kyuss songs already recorded. And he had his own stuff. Man's Ruin would put out anything. Back then, Kyuss was pretty obscure so there was no discontent among other band members with this coming out. No one knew who Josh Homme was outside of the Kyuss die hards. Turned out to be a classic album, the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.
