This sounds like Samuel Jonathan Johnson - My Music a track from his only release from Columbia Records CBS. Same track that The Lox sampled for We Gon Make It.

Quite true my friend but a lot of that jazz was fusion/funk oriented, i.e. Weldon Irvine, Freddie Hubbard, Roy Ayers, RAMP etc. Not to mention soul music from people like Minnie, Stevie, and other dominant 1970s groups.
