Early Morning Riser - Pure Prairie League

I love this masterpiece of country rock fusion. Foundational corner stone of todays..."Main Stream Country". Miss the pure rock from then..but alas it lives and evolves like rockabilly to rock and roll which is merged with Black Man's blues. Oh the hindsight is finally paying off in my musical philosophical progression.

Vince Gill, a very well polished vocalist and guitar player, offered "corporate business" a good looking front man that would in corporates view "sell more records." That in itself is not a bad thing unless the music suffers from the original, which it did. I do not know if their record sales increased. PPL's early releases without Vince were recorded and written without a POP MUSIC appeal and are considered their best. I did get to see them with Vince, and he did a great job as the front man, but the concert was more pop and rock Oriented and lacked that Rocky Mountain country feel we all were introduced to in the early 70's. With or without him, still a great band.

It is a shame the Craig Fuller League produced only two albums, but what albums they were! I still enjoy them better than any Eagles album. The Eagles are great, but I love the League's sound. This song is my favorite.

PPL, The Eagles, Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band: great music anytime but especially loved playing these songs in my car on long cross-country road trips.

Vince Gill is talented, but I always thought that he considered the band to be his backup band. Personally, I think Craig Lee Fuller has a far better voice and the band is a better band without Vince.

The first two PPL albums were so damn good, there was nothing like them at the time!

I was 17. George is from Winston-Salem, I was a senior in high school. Bought the album for $2.25 at record bar. Life was wonderful!

Somebody said music was about opinion, well heck it's pretty black and white - This band were that good in '72 and the first two albums were bettered by nobody.... Maybe Eagles' Desperado or even Homecoming by America ran Craig Fuller close, but I struggle to think of too many other rivals.

This has always been my favorite band except during the Vince Gill days which, IMHO, almost destroyed them. During those days, I reverted to their earliest compositions which are eternally unequaled by any measure or any other band- bar none!

My intended and I used to listen to this. We have been married for 36 years. My late friend Pat Cook introduced me to PPL.

If you can't relate to this than you have some serious personal issues. Freckin fantastic music from the early '70's.
