if a person really knew bluegrass and paid attention, nearly all of the traditional "murder ballads" (is the term) outline the tale of violence, but also outline the regret, misery, and ultimate punishment and demise of the murderer unlike in modern genre. ( banks of the ohio, this song, willow garden, little saide, tom duley, omie wise, ect.) The violence is not glorified but spoken of with woe, unlike in rap or other tripe. There are also over 100 songs detailing the demise, misery, or death of a man in bluegrass for every 1 song that speaks of the death or misery of a woman.

Listen to the lyrics of this song and those you quoted. I don't believe they condone violence. The subject of this song is in prison for life....probably on death row. If anything I would say the song is about regret for a decision that shouldn't have been made. "Ain't no one singing that I ain't wrong." I would say that sums it up.

Okay, im sure it does exist in any form of music.... But ive never heard of anyone raising much a fuss over "Little Sadie" and "Knoxville Girl"..... I suppose my point was that no one seems to get too offended....

And a huge LOL to Bertnernie for thinking that bluegrass is the only genre that accepts violence against women. That's a completely ridiculous statement.

Yes, I filmed the Bach, but I have to get on my husband's computer at work to upload it because our Internet at home is slooooow. Look for it tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

@Burtnernie only in bluegrass? Not true at all. I don't like it either, but it's all over pop songs. "Love the way you lie" by Rhianna and Eminem is terrible. It condones violence, cheating, and staying in those kind of relationships.

Dont you love how only in the medium of bluegrass, songs of wanton violence against women is not that scoffed at... for good or ill.
