Procol Harum - Homburg 1967

Follow up of 'A whiter shade of pale'

Gary Brooker - Keys, vocals

B.J. wilson - Drums

David Knights - Bass

Robin Trower - Guitar

Matthew Fisher - Organ

Your multilingual business friend

Has packed her bags and fled

Leaving only ash-filled ashtrays

And the lipsticked unmade bed

The mirror on reflection

Has climbed back upon the wall

For the floor she found descended

And the ceiling was too tall

Your trouser cuffs are dirty

And your shoes are laced up wrong

You'd better take off your homburg

'cos your overcoat is too long

The town clock in the market square

Stands waiting for the hour

When it's hands they both turn backwards

And on meeting will devour

Both themselves and also any fool

Who dares to tell the time

And the sun and moon will shatter

And the signposts cease to sign

Your trouser cuffs are dirty

And your shoes are laced up wrong

You'd better take off your homburg

'cos your overcoat is too long

Your trouser cuffs are dirty

And your shoes are laced up wrong

You'd better take off your homburg

'cos your overcoat is too long

Your trouser cuffs are dirty

And your shoes are laced up wrong

You'd better take off your homburg

'cos your overcoat is too long

I can hear where Alice Cooper got the verse tune from for Only Women Bleed...Those lyrics make as much sense as Wonderwall's...GREAT sound though.

Classic Rock

A happy birthday to :Gary Brooker, MBE, (1945) is an English singer, songwriter, pianist and founder and lead singer of the rock band Procol Harum. He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours on 14 June 2003, in recognition of his charitable services.Procol Harum - Homburg (1967)"Homburg" was the rock band Procol Harum's follow-up single to their initial 1967 hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale". Written by pianist Gary Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid, "Homburg" reached number 5 in the UK charts, number 15 in Canada, and number 34 in the United States. It went to number one in several countries, including Australia, South Africa, and the Netherlands.Reid's "Homburg" lyrics contains the same surreal, dream-like imagery and feelings of resignation and futility as in the debut single. The music also features Matthew Fisher's rich and deep Hammond organ, but the piano and guitar have bigger places in the overall sound. The theme is not as clearly Bach-like as in "A Whiter Shade of Pale"; nevertheless, the single was, on its release, criticised for being too similar to its predecessor. The B side of the single is "Good Captain Clack" which was taken from the album Procol Harum.
