What this song says to me is that she and her friend, boyfriend, lover whatever have problems. And she's so familiar to them always getting back together or hashing it out, but this time they don't. And now she's lying to herself trying to keep herself from the reality that it's over and they're not getting back together. And that this is goodbye. People will do whatever it takes to keep themselves from a reality or situation don't like, sometimes spiraling themselves into insanity. That's just my opinion and what the song says to me.
