The entire story and attention to detail is absolutely breath taking in this movie. The narrators voice is so smooth it adds a whole nother sense of mystery to the movie. The trees? I'm sure some of you thought "what's up with the talk of trees all the damn time?" Trees represent the growth of the girls and how the adults in their lives are taking this away from them. By their mother smothering them and not allowing them to experience the outside world they become stupid and naïve to its cruelties. This is why Trip really got to Lux. She had never actually been in love and when she gave the only thing she had to him, he took it and left her weak and alone. The main boys ask "how much can someone write about trees and sparkles in eyes?" (obviously not a direct quote) the twinkle in their eyes is supposed to be their lust for life. To experience everything and enjoy all the things life has to offer. And re-itterating the tree point, they were stumped. Doomed forever to be stuck in time. Adults demanding they be cut down so as not to "poison" the world around them. Also, at the end when the narrator tells us of the effects the trees/girls deaths have on the world around them. They describe that their parents just moved on as if they'd seen it all before. That of which they have. Destroying people unfortunately becomes apart of life and seeing them fall to pieces is no longer surprising. Yet, the girls leave a psychic and physical presence in the air after their deaths. The air turns green and poisonous (expressing how they felt constantly holed up in that "terrible decorating scheme"
