It can be taken either way. Thats the fun part about music. For me this is a very mellow, but also quite happy song. This song describes nearly every Wednesday of my teen years, as I had a pizza feast with friends every week and I always looked forward to it.

I don't know why everyone says this song is depressing. It's slow, yes, but the lyrics are happy. I could see a music video of a bunch of kids in a lunchroom enjoying pizza but the whole thing is in slow motion.

It's silly, but back in high school when I was really suicidal, this song was kind of my anthem. I'd listen to it to remind myself to hang on to life, if only for the little pleasures. And the message passes more smoothly in song than through the mouth of a blameful relative who thinks your depression is selfish.
