The one thing that's baffling me here and making me suspect it's not real is the weakness of his playing. Entwistle used to pull the strings right off the bass, but this sounds like someone that's barely applying any pressure to the strings with their right hand (which is definitely being picked here), or maybe not pressing down hard enough with the left. If this is Entwistle, I'm disappointed.

This is neither Entwistle nor the Who. More likely a cover band rehearsing.

Well, whomever's playing this bassline, they're using a P-Bass, slapping/plucking the strings about the same way John did in those days. The Who laid down tracks using Pete's demos as a guide, which is why you're hearing Pete's voice under there. Listen to his "Pinball Wizard" demo from Another Scoop and you'll hear the same inflections.What might also be confusing the issue for others is that, well, if it is John, this is before he played it live hundreds of times. It's not as slick as he'd be at Woodstock for example. Incidentally, he recorded Tommy with the "Frankenstein" P-Bass he used almost exclusively from 1968 to 1971, and played live with that same bass. This sounds a lot like that bass.

If you listen in the background to the vocals, it doesn't sound like Daltrey, so this probably isn't Entwistle either.

Definitely NOT the Ox! As Jim Kennelly correctly pointed out, this was not Entwistle's technique. Additionally, this isn't even the same bass line as when he played it. You can tell right from the opening riff. That part that sounds like a fog horn coming in in the Who versions? That's the bass.

I took this from a MOGG file of an live version of Pinball Wizard, the same audio that was used in the others videos of Pinball Wizard in my channel, so I'm pretty sure it's Entwistle playing... Look the others videos, are all the original members...

Deffo Entwistle - no one else gets a bass sound like this. The vocal in the background sounds like Townshend to me; which I think means that this bass is from either a live track or a P.T demo.
