Probably most people have someone who's gone on that had a tremendous influence on their life. For me, that person is my Grandfather, my mom's dad. He pastored for some 40 years. He built the little country church with little help, and very seldom did he go to service without fresh milk or vegetables from the garden. The great testimony to his life came at his funeral; I don't think I've ever seen such a crowd, especially in that small Missouri town. My mom talks often about his wisdom, and how when she was troubled about something, she could talk to him and he seemed to always know just what to say. I'm sad to say I didn't have that kind of interaction with him, but looking back on his life from what my mother has shared with me, this song reminds me so much of him. I truly look forward to the day when he and I can sit and visit, and share the precious truths we have learned from God's word.
