it's a sweet surprise to listen Phil, I'm one of his 50 fans, I was 15 in 1976 and listened to an italian radio program dedicated to him, since that I began to buy his records etc...here the voice sometimes sounds a little strange, we know what's happened to him...

He did start drinking more after the Africa incident. He also started doing more drugs. When he did a tour, playing Elivs and Buddy Holly songs (as well as his own of course) he was on loads of drugs, loads of uppers and loads of downers, so his mood wasn't that stable. If you really want to know more about him I recommend you watch "There But For Fortune", it's a documentary released in 2010. It's really great.

Yeah, I made some comment to my dad about how he was a closet wino. My dad said, "No, he was just a wino." Heh. I guess that's true. I can't help but wonder if he started drinking a lot more after that incident. I know I would. I mean, he still sounds like Phil Ochs, but if I had his voice, I would rue the day I lost any of it too. And of course. :D I'm very opinionated, and like to speak my mind, and I very much appreciate all your knowledge and songs of Phil Ochs that you share with us. :)

Well he was an alcoholic, so he was most probably drunk. Judging by the voice I'd say it was recorded after the Africa incident. Thanks for the comments by the way!

He sounds drunk, but I'm not sure. Maybe this was after what happened in Africa?
