The story of the song: My mother was born in Barranquilla Colombia in 1921. Her father was a paddle steam captain on the river used by the Spanish conquistadors to get to the Foothills of the Andes from the Caribbean Coast. She was named Magdalena after that river and by coincidence lived in Magdalena Street. The intro to this piece was one of the first things she taught me on the guitar in Havana, Cuba in 1957. This track is dedicated to her.

Why isn't PM bigger? Everything he does is better than the last thing he did and he just keeps reinventing music. He is like Bowie except not mainstream commercial - Magdalena (from Sound Of Blue) is a tribute to his mother Magdalena,born in Baranquilla ,Colombia and named so by her father who was a captain of a paddle steamer that travelled up the Magdalena river in the times of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.Phil’s mother began teaching him guitar ,aged seven , in Havana ,Cuba in 1958 and the beginning of this track was one of the first pieces of music he learnt from her.The video starts with a shot of the actual guitar.8 years назад
