After about 6 hours Ive found way to play both lead and rhythm in finger style. Not an easy picking pattern. Drop D tuning capo 1st fret, thumb plays 1-2 rhythm on 6th and 4th string while index, middle, and ring finger pluck the lead. I suggest starting w/o hammer-ons and pull-offs and then working them in little by little. Still sounds good without them and much easier to pluck. Good luck! It can/has be/been done! Just takes a little patience and trial and error.
