Around Jazz, Swing - Rhythm and blues"A long time ago, about a million years B.C.The best things in life were absolutely freeBut no one appreciated a sky that was always blueAnd no one anticipated a moon that was always new.So it was planned that they should vanish now and thenAnd you must pay before you get them back againThat's what storms were made forAnd you shouldn't be afraid forEvery time it rains, it rains pennies from heavenDon't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven? You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the townMake sure that your umbrella is upside downTrade them for a package of sunshine and flowersIf you want the things you love, you must have showersSo when you hear it thunder, don't run under a treeThere'll be pennies from heaven for you and meEvery time it rains, it rains pennies from heavenDon't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven? You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the townMake sure that your umbrella is upside downTrade them for a package of sunshine and flowersIf you want the things you love, you must have showersSo, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a treeThere'll be pennies from heaven for you and meSo take a big deep breath of the clean fresh airPut a smile on your face; be a millionaireThe streets outside are paved with goldThere'll be pennies from heaven for you and me"

i know the first version was from Bing Crosby and even inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004 but i think most peopple would agree this version is sooo much better.the melody and her voice makes it almost a complete different song

Oh, every time it rains, it rains, pennies from heaven. Don't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven. You'll find your fortune fallin' all over town. Be sure that your umbrella. is upside down. Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers. If you want the things you love, you must have showers. So when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree. There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me. (((LOVE IT))))

Ooh, on a quiet lazy Sunday here is a really moldie goldie oldie. The songs from the depression era are not particularly lachrymose but rather upbeat with much hope for all in the words of the song. Here is a song that my Dad used to sing to put me to sleep when I was very very young. It stayed with me and eventually I searched it out on that old service where you could download songs until the authorities began suing users and closed the website. It had a picture of a cat but who can remember anything that recent. Oh, but things from 50 years ago, that I can remember. So I go out and find this compilation of four CD's of the songs of Billie Holiday and it sounds so like an old scratchy 78. And there was the one I downloaded, but on this CD she sings as a member of the Teddy Wilson Band. The song provides a bit of cheer and hope during the depression and it hits my chart at # 3418 - it was raining "Pennies from Heaven".
