Its not impossible but its hard. You have to play on cruise control so to say to be able to sing it properly. Knowing the song by heart is necessary in order to accomplish that.

Dont get me wron Satriani, Vai etc are amazing guitar playuers, quite simply amazing, but I ac tually get bored of listening to instrumentals, it's nice for a little while listening to these gods among guitar players but gets old fast(for me anyways). Give me a propper song like this and it's alot nicer to listen to :)

I am a guitar player and i love Paul Gilbert but these are some pretty shitty lyrics. He should do the same thing Joe Satriani should do...stop singing. (although not quite as bad as Joe Satriani)
