Goes out to my lovely aunt Anne Curran. No one could put on a little bit of perfume, a few bits of jewelry and snap her gum and just be that so damn devine. I miss you auntie. This song was one we shared and i'll never forget it nor you. I love you. Plus your hair when "on" was perfect. ;)

Before his death on April 22, 2008 (one day after his 60th birthday), Davis had returned to singing and songwriting by recording two songs, "You Ain't Sweet Enough" and "Today." He died from a heart attack at the Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.

Maybe it was #52 on Billboard, but it hit #1 in some local areas. See ARSA radio surveys.

There are many versions of this song but in my opinion, this is the best.

This song was written by Bert Berns, who eventually founded Bang Records. Multiple Bang recording artists, including Paul Davis (but not including Neil Diamond and probably not including Van Morrison), also recorded their own versions for the label.

@brandykody11 I totally agree with you about YouTube being educational. So many songs and I didn't realize Paul did them. The man covered a few genre's in his time and I never knew.

This song was originally a pop and R&B hit for The Jarmels in 1961. Paul's version (Bang 578) was his first chart hit, reaching #52 in 1970. The version heard on this YouTube posting, though, is NOT the mix present on his original Bang single. Paul was born in Meridian, MS in 1948, scored 15 Hot 100 pop hits between 1970 and 1982 before going completely country. He survived getting shot in Nashville in 1988 only to die of a heart attack at age 60 in 2008.

This is a great song, and nearly all the versions I have heard of it sound good ... but this has got to be close to the best one ... Very smooth and very cool ! ... Wayne
