No it wasn't the 60's. It was 1974...released in June '74, hit #1 on Billboard rankings, caused a major problem with feminists who crapped all over Anka for it's lyrics, and they attacked him hard. He explained it wasn't political but just a love song. They were especially pissed that it hit #1. -The song can be heard playing on a radio during the beach scene in JAWS.
